"Sleaze rock is the bastard child of heavy metal, as the term defines a musical genre that has almost as much to do with attitude as songs. The music itself is rebellious, aggressive and downright nasty. The PMRC hated it, as did your parents. Whether it was Zodiac Mindwarp claiming to be the "Tattooed Beat Messiah," Spread Eagle getting "Back On The Bitch," L.A. Guns wanting some "Sex Action," or Rhino Bucket begging fans to "Ride The Rhino," the attitude remained the same as they gave the general public the middle finger.
Often sleaze bands came across better live then in a studio that tried to harness their aggression. They were at the top of their game when touring on the road, abusing drugs and alcohol and having sex with your daughters or wives. The look and attitude also separated them from other bands. Long hair that looks like it's been washed with used motorcycle oil, black leather jackets and tight pants, and tattoos proudly displayed from head to toe are all trademarks of a true sleaze band. They truly were the outlaws of rock 'n' roll."

Algunos de los éxitos de su primera etapa sleaze son Animal, L.O.V.E. Machine y I Wanna Be Somebody, canciones que muchos reconoceréis.

De la wikipedia:

"The Crimson Idol was the fifth studio album by American heavy metal band W.A.S.P., originally released by Capitol Records in 1992 (1993 in the United States). The album is a concept album, telling the story of the rise and fall of a fictional rock star named Jonathan Steel.

The album was originally recorded as a Blackie Lawless solo album, but he bowed to record company pressure to release it under the W.A.S.P. moniker.

The Crimson Idol World Tour took place unusually 15 years after the release of the album to mark its 15th anniversary, from October 29, 2007 in the The Garage, Glasgow in Scotland. Also it marked the first time that the film recorded for The Crimson Idol, was ever shown in public, this was played along with the band as they performed their tracks in synch with the film. This is the only time that the album has ever been played from start to finish by the band itself since recording the album. The tour also featured 'Mephisto Waltz' the seventh track from the 1989 album 'The Headless Children' as the intro to the show before they launched into the first track of the album 'The Titanic Overture' All shows had a long encore section anywhere from 2-6 songs, classics and 'Take Me Up' from the new album 'Dominator' (before they came out to do encores the 'Dominator' backdrop would occasional make an appearance)

The story

The story of The Crimson Idol revolves around a teenager named Jonathon. He is the son of William and Elizabeth Steel, and brother of Michael Steel. Michael is the favorite son who can do no wrong. Jonathon on the other hand, is a complete failure in their eyes. He runs away from home after his brother is killed in a car accident, and starts to wander the streets, getting addicted to drugs and alcohol. When he walks past a music store, he sees a guitar and wants to become a rock star.

He steals the guitar and plays as often as he can, to try to obtain money to record an album. Then he meets a man, "Chainsaw" Charlie, the president of a major record company. He promises to make Jonathon a star, and introduces Jonathon to Alex Rodman, who will become his manager. Jonathon becomes a rock star, but he finds out that life is not as glamourous as it seems. Jonathon has fame and fortune, but not the one thing he always wanted, the love and acceptance of his parents.

One night before a concert, Jonathon calls his parents in an attempt to reconcile their differences and heal the emotional wounds between them. According to the story "less than fifty words were spoken" the last four of which being "we have no son."

Jonathon realizes that he will never be accepted by his parents and decides to commit suicide. During the aforementioned concert, Jonathon removes the strings from his guitar, shapes them into a noose and hangs himself."

"Often it is wondered what the band's name stands for, or if it stands for anything since it is written as an acronym. In an interview in the 1980s the band claimed it stands for "We Are Sexual Perverts." It is not known whether this was a serious statement. It is believed by many they said it for shock value. "We Are Sexual Perverts" is inscribed on their first album into the vinyl next to the label.
Alternatively some people believe the initials of W.A.S.P. stand for "We Are Satan's People" or even "We Are Satan's Preachers". Another possible abbreviation is "White Anglo-Saxon Protestants", being the original meaning of the acronym. When asked, Blackie Lawless has avoided giving a straight answer; in one interview he answered "We ain't sure, pal".
Blackie Lawless has told another story on how W.A.S.P. got their name. He said he and a friend were walking in the backyard and while clueless as to what to call the band, saw a wasp nest on the ground under a tree and decided to go with that and call the band WASP. The band later decided to add a period between each letter to make it stand out more when people saw it."
